Self's Deception

Before this book I first tried to read Flaubert's Madam Bovary in order to enrich my vocabulary knowledge especially for my relatively weak English speaking. After one week trial I realized that it would not help much because of the old fashioned words I had never heard before. And since I was looking in dictionary for every unfamiliar word , reading that way was suffering to me. Than I gave up that book and decided to read something up to date. First I finished an easy read series book (A Cool Head by Ian Rankin) that took about three days to complete and it was entertaining. Than I ventured to start this 334 pages book. Now I'm happy to manage to finish it. Since I only read in the minibus going to and coming from work I finished it in about one month. At the beginning I spent lots of time to take notes of the words that I didn't know. Than I changed the way I read and went on reading without jotting down the words but underlying them. It sped me up very much.
Gerhard Self, a former Nazi public prosecutor and now a private detector is the protagonist of Self's Deception. He takes a case to investigate about a young girl (Leo Salger) from a mysterious client with a satisfactory payment. The client introduces himself on the phone as the father of Leo Salger and says he was anxious about his daughter's life. At first Gerhard doesn't want to accept the case but the money is too much to refuse. While he is investigating he realizes that the case is not as simple as a father who is looking for his daughter. Leo Salger is being accused of taking part in a terrorist attack to an American Installation in Germany. But the attack is being hidden from the public and is kept as a secret till a murder. Than a search warrant for Leo is published but Self has already reached her. Because of the mysterious things about the case and also he is a bit attracted by her he helps her to escape outside the country. His help come out and he is sent to prison. But before that he solves who is behind the murder and what is all behind the terrorist attack. So he bargains with the police and rescue Leo Salger and himself from prison. It takes time in mental hospital for Leo to be normal again.
It was entertaining but now I have a lot of words to retrace.
